Highlights will include: a visit to Table Mountain and Robben Island in Capetown, The Great Rift Valley where it is said humans originated and Lake Nakuru National Park, famed for its flamingos, Masai Mara National Park, the Serengeti to see the great wildebeest migration the biggest wildlife spectacle on earth, Ngorongoro Crater, one of East Africa’s most visited destinations, a vast caldera packed with high concentrations of wildlife offering close-range viewing opportunities, then to the beautiful and exotic spice island of Zanzibar which has lured traders, adventurers, plunderers and explorers to its shores for centuries and finally we will drop into see the spectacular Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe!

Brief Itinerary

Day 1-3: Sydney to Capetown (B) 
Arrive late afternoon early evening. Welcome to Africa! Day two we will do a city tour including a visit to Table Mountain via cablecar and visit Robben Island where Nelson Mandella was imprisoned. Lots to see and do with many optional tours available and free time to visit V&A Waterfront area for shopping. Accommodation: Ambassador Hotel Bantry Bay. Masai Mara

Day 4: Capetown to Nairobi (B)
Look forward to a journey through majestic, unspoiled landscapes to fabulous game reserves where the dark continents incomparable wildlife is protected in its natural habitat. Overnight at Nairobi Safari Club.  

Day 5: Lake Nakuru N.Park (BLD) 

Breakfast before drive via Thompson Falls to Lake Nakuru National Park for a morning game drive.  Lunch at a lodge in the park. After lunch take an leisurely afternoon game drive through Lake Nakuru National Park, famous for pink flamingos. Drive to the edge of the lake to view thousands of birds feeding in the alkaline water; see the sweeping view from the top of Baboon Rocks. Dinner and overnight at Flamingo Hill Tented Camp

We begin early today viewing the animals starting their daily routines. After a late breakfast we embark on our second game safari, where we get another glimpse of the animals before returning to our lodge for a sumptuous dinner. Overnight at Flamingo Hill Tented Camp.

Day 7: Masai Mara Game Reserve (BLD) 
Traverse the Rift Valley and ascend its western rim into the Masai land. Red-clad, with spear Masai warriors tend their herds of cattle among the wildlife, admirably unmoved by the presence of large predators. Afternoon game drive in search of wildlife. Accommodation Mara Serena Safari Lodge 

Day 8: Masai Mara (BLD)
Morning and afternoon game drives. The most spectacular feature is the annual migration of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle from the plains of Serengeti that cross the Tanzanian border and rivers to reach the Maras grasslands from late June, tracked by predators: lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, circled by vultures as the journey unfolds. Apart from seasonal migration, game viewing is excellent year round. Stay Mara Serena Safari Lodge.

Day 9: Isebania Border to Serengeti (BLD) 
After breakfast depart with picnic lunch to Isebania border where you will clear customs, meet our guides for the Tanzanian journey, and continue on safari!  Drive to our lodge in the Serengeti National Park with a game drive en-route. Accommodation: Lobo Wildlife Lodge

 

Day 10: Serengeti National Park (BLD) 
Enjoy a full day of game drives in the Serengeti National Park renowned for its annual wildebeest migration and large predator population. 

From February to May, a herd of over a million wildebeests migrates for the Western  corridor  of  the park in search of pastures. Serengetis common animals include lions, leopards, zebras, Thompson gazelles, impala, Grants gazelles and buffalos. Most of the park is open grassland broken by isolated granite kopies (hills) and patches of acacias woodlands. Overnight at Lobo Wildlife Lodge

Day 11: Serengeti to Ngorongoro (BLD) 
After breakfast you will depart on a game drive and make your way to the Ngorongoro Crater, passing through the Conservation Area. On the way, visit Olduvai Gorge, site of Louis and Mary Leakeys renowned archaeological discoveries. Their findings include some of mans earliest  known ancestral remains. Continue to our lodge situated on the rim of the Ngorongoro crater, where we will spend our evening enjoying the magnificent views. Overnight Ngorongoro Serena Lodge. 

Day 12: Ngorongoro Crater (BLD) Ngorongoro Crater
Today you will experience a game drive in the Ngorongoro crater. One of the World largest Calderas at 20km wide, Ngorongoro Crater is also one of the best Wildlife viewing areas in Tanzania. Surrounded by very steep walls, rising 610m from the crater floor, it covers 260km2 and is home to over 30,000 animals, almost half of them being zebra and wildebeest.  Also home to the rare black rhino, prides of lion, elephant, cheetah and great herds of buffalo, antelope, Ngorongoro is listed as a World Heritage site. Overnight Ngorongoro Serena Lodge.

Day 13: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha then Zanzibar (BD)
After breakfast, drive to Arusha for our flight to Zanzibar. Transfer to our hotel. Unpack, kick back, relax and enjoy 3 nights at Mbweni Ruins Hotel, dinner and breakfast is included for the duration of our stay at this lovely hotel just south of Stone Town. 

Day 14-15: Zanzibar (BD)
Swim in the sea or the swimming pool above the beach. Go for a dhow trip to nearby sandbars and islets or borrow hotel kayaks and paddle through the nearby mangrove glades. Visit the city and see the ancient architecture of the Stone town (built from coral stones,) walk through the famous alleys, see the hanging balconies, stunning doors, and visit the market, to hustle and bustle, with the local people.

Day 16: Zanzibar to Dar es Salam  (BD)
Transfer to airport for a short flight to Darasalam, transfer to our hotel for overnight New Africa Hotel.

Day 17: Darasalam to Victoria Falls
Transfer to airport for our flight to Victoria Falls via Johhannsberg. Arriving 13.10 settle into our elegant old world hotel. We will get a close up look at the Zambezi River and the wildlife on its banks this evening on a Sunset River Cruise with drinks and snacks included

Zambezi is also the name of the local beer, from memory a very good drop! Accommodation: The Victoria Falls Hotel is situated on a natural heritage site overlooking the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. The hotel has a distinctly colonial design, its interiors and exterior reflecting a grand Edwardian elegance.

Day 18: Victoria Falls (BD)
Today is free to visit Victoria Falls and enjoy some of the many optional activities here such as helicopter Flight of the Angles over the Falls, elephant safari, horse riding, Flying Fox across the gorge, white water rafting and bungie jump. Do your last minute shopping.
Tonight we will all get together for the last time at our Farewell Dinner at the hotel.

Day 19: Victoria Falls to Sydney
Transfer to airport for our flight to
Johannesburg and onto Sydney

Day 20: Sydney
Arrive into Sydney 1355 with photos and memories that will last a lifetime!
